## “Learning First” Preamble The Southwestern recording studio is, above all, a learning institution. Consequently, education is the primary focus of all activities within the studio. The instructor holds ultimate authority in setting learning expectations and determining the use of the space.  ## Accountability Standards: We the teachers reserve the right to enforce accountability. Our primary interest is in holding you accountable, even if it doesn’t always come across as “nice.” You must adhere to our accountability standards. You are responsible for checking the space and ensuring that your sessions are efficient. A grading sheet will be used to evaluate your performance, and some students will naturally score higher than others. ## Classroom Etiquette and Disruption: As administrators, it is frustrating when students are disruptive. We have a plan in place, including executive action, where students must recognize their responsibility to be accountable. While we strive not to hurt your feelings, ultimate authority lies with us, and accountability is expected from everyone. You are expected to handle constructive criticism, just as we do. However, as instructors, we reserve the right to manage the class in the way we believe is most effective. Some concerns can be addressed after class, and we ask that you not take this personally. ## Learning Initiative: Be creative in your learning approach and have fun with it! Don’t be afraid to use tools like ChatGPT to quiz yourself and reinforce what has been presented. We may not always have time to review or explain everything in class, so it’s your responsibility to take initiative and proactively study the material. Many students start out as ‘dependent learners,’ but we encourage you to strive toward becoming ‘independent learners.’ This means taking accountability for your progress, actively seeking out answers, and growing beyond the classroom.”
