When a talent wants to re-record sections, this process is called punching in. It involves re-recording specific parts to replace audio they believe can be improved. You can determine the punch-in point ahead of time using pre-roll, or use quick punch to set the exact punch-in time during recording. ### Pre-Roll/Post-Roll Method By using pre-roll, you can decide in advance exactly when the punch-in will take place, giving artists time to listen to the audio leading into the punch-in spot so they can adequately prepare. You can also set a post-roll point, which determines when the playback/recording stops. The benefit of pre-roll is that it technically starts recording before it officially prints on the timeline, which is why it's called pre-roll. The same applies to post-roll. This is convenient because it allows for flexibility if you miscalculate when the talent needs to start recording.
