(authored by Alex Vargas) Printing / Copying in SWC For Faculty/Staff and Students # INTRODUCTION This document is about the different ways to print/copy on paper other than the standard letter size in SWC for faculty/staff or students. # Faculty/Staff Print Shop (Freemium) This is the SWC Print Shop on campus based in Building 48B in the north of campus as seen in Figure 2. Please refer to the following to understand the basic procedure: “Faculty and staff members who need duplicating/printing of materials or finishing work (e.g., collate, staple, punch, padding, folding, coil binding, lamination, perforation, scoring, etc.) may submit work directly to Central Services in Room 46D-125 or via e-mail. See e-mail submission below (some restrictions apply). With a few exceptions this service is complimentary. We can produce many types of documents in black and white or color, such as exams/quizzes, classroom handouts, handbooks, programs, posters, flyers, postcards, brochures, business cards, newsletters, tickets, and signs.” As you can see above, this service is usually complementary. What it does not mention is that Faculty/Staff may have a designated budget if they want to print “a lot” or a “special paper/card stock” For the purpose of our intern use case, there should not be any issue seeing as how it’s low volume, black and white and normal matte (writable) paper even though it’s 11x17”. Below you will find the Main Website, Duplicating/Printing Services Outline and Request Form. As well as the business card of the Central Services Production Assistant, David Lizarraga (Figure 1). Unfortunately, even though they might advertise it, the copy machines seldom have the larger 11x17” format available for copying. 1. FTMA Offices (below library BLDG 64 from Figure 2). 2. In BLDG 26 access in front of the Time Out Cafe (BLDG 27 from Figure 2). 3. (Add the ones you find here.) # Student Printing/Copies (Paid) This option is for students who want to print/copy at a low cost. They can print in standard letter size and some in larger formats*. 4. Academic Success Center (ASC) (BLDG 26 from Figure 2) *(11x17” / 12x18”) 5. Library (actually need to double check if you can print here or just copy). # CONCLUSION As a Student there are not a lot of choices to copy or print other than the traditional ASC or Library, that is not to say they are bad options. As Faculty or Staff however, you have a few good options: - If you want a large quantity or want to print in larger sizes or on a more fancy paper, then I think it’s worth it to go through the trouble of filling out the forms and have the Print Shop do the work. - If you just need a few copies though, in standard letter format, you can find the Faculty/Staff copy machines in different spots over campus. And who knows, they might even have the larger 11x17” size. **
