We will explore a workflow that utilizes Spot Mode and Sync Points to precisely position audio at specific locations in our timeline. ## Spot Mode Spot mode in ProTools allows us to "Spot" audio to a very specific location. A shortcut for accessing it is Option 3.  ![image.png](image-2882e983-16b5-4529-af33-cc2f4e6ffde5.png) ### The Spot Dialog ![image.png](image-a85761da-716c-4a96-8179-6e6ba3430f63.png) When Spot mode is enabled, clicking on a clip will engage the Spot dialog. The Spot dialog allows you to position a clip precisely on your timeline based on the start of the clip, a chosen point within the clip (known as a sync point), or the end of the clip. You can use the time scale button drop-down to select the time unit that Spot Mode references. Additionally, Spot Mode retains the original time stamp of the clip, enabling you to return it to its original location if needed. Watch this video by Wavy Wayne for more details on Spot Mode. ## Sync Point To set the middle point of the clip for Spot Mode to reference correctly, click on the clip and press Command + Comma. ## Activity Watch the following video to learn how to integrate all this information for an efficient and precise sound placement workflow suitable for sound design.
