Pro Tools offers several essential edit modes that change how editing functions. Be mindful of these modes, as pressing function keys F1-F4 can accidentally switch them. Alternatively, you can change the edit modes by pressing Option 1-4.
## Slip
I recommend using Slip Mode for most applications. In Slip Mode, cutting or trimming elements in the timeline does not cause the audio material to shift backward.

## Shuffle
Shuffle mode functions like Slip mode but also shifts the remaining audio on the timeline backward when sections are removed. This is useful for workflows where you frequently need to cut out filler words, such as in podcasts or during jump cuts in YouTube videos. However, be cautious: if multiple audio tracks reference the same material, they can easily fall out of sync if you’re not careful to apply changes consistently across all tracks. For more control, consider using Slip mode and manually moving the audio back or forward as needed.
