We are striving to emulate a professional studio working environment, which comes with responsibility and respect. The Southwestern recording studio is, above all, a learning institution. Education is the primary focus of all activities within the studio and respect for one another is paramount. The instructor holds ultimate authority in setting learning expectations and determining the use of the space.  ## Studio Boundaries - Entrance to the studio and Exit to the studio is only the main studio door - No unsupervised guests allowed; meaning they have to be accompanied by the RA&T student at all times - There is a designated key holder who is essentially the studio manager - Absolutely no food or drink in studio - If you're in Studio A behind the console, you need to be working - If you're in the control room and you're observing, you need to be silent ## Guest Relations - Relay the [[Studio Guest Handbook]] to potential studio guests, kindly emphasizing the [[Studio Guest Handbook#Studio Rules}| Studio Rules]] when they arrive to the facilities - Work to build a rapport with the guests. - Do not touch instruments without asking for permission. - Aspire to be silent while in the tracking room, remaining quiet whenever possible for the purpose of being able to keenly listen. - Communicate with guests about takes (e.g., “What did you feel about that take?”). - Update guests about ETAs and assure them things are moving in the right direction. If a delay occurs, call for a break. ## Classroom Expectations - Be active and participate in the session. - Be aware of classroom roles - No phones allowed unless given express consent by your instructor. ## Equipment Handling - Listen at reasonably quiet levels - Always mute the mixer whenever before leaving a room unattended. - Review the protocol for every single piece of gear prior to handling, consulting with your instructor if confused. - Wrap and dress cables properly. - Avoid stepping on cables. - Properly tear down after each session, leaving the studio better than how you found it.
