Boosting Audio Beyond 15 dB in Premiere Pro

The track volume slider in Premiere Pro has a maximum limit of +15 dB. This guide covers methods to boost audio beyond that limit.

Methods

  1. Select clip(s) in the timeline
  2. Right-click > Audio Gain (or press G)
  3. Choose Set Gain to or Adjust Gain by
  4. Enter the desired value

Audio Gain has no practical upper limit for most use cases.

Amplify Effect

Allows up to +48 dB of boost.

  1. Go to Effects > Audio Effects > Amplitude and Compression > Amplify
  2. Drag onto the clip
  3. Adjust the gain parameter in Effect Controls

Stacking Methods

For extreme cases:

  • Apply multiple Amplify effects
  • Duplicate the audio track and mix together
  • Combine Audio Gain with track volume

Considerations

If audio requires more than +15 dB of boost, the source recording may be too quiet. Consider:

  • Re-recording at proper levels
  • Using compression to bring up quiet sections
  • Normalizing peaks to -6 dB as a starting point
